- Economic and social differences between the North and the South
While the South was more about farming, the North had more of an industrial/business feel to it, so obviously the South was more for slavery than the North. The South had more of a predominantly agrarian while the North was becoming more industrialized.

The struggle between the federal government and individual state power causing the divide between the north and the south to worsen. The North felt strongly about the federal government to have more power while the south wanted there to be more power to the individual states. - The fight between the slave and the non slave proponents
This was the issue that caused the disruption between the union. The dispute lead to the secession which eventually led to a war between the north and the south.The North wanted slavery to be abolished while the South wanted to keep slavery because of all of their farm work. - Growth of the Abolition Movement
The goal of the abolition movement was the emancipation of all slaves and the end of all racial discrimination. People were growing tired of all of the segregation, so they made a stand which caused some unfortunate bloodshed. - Election of 1860
Abraham Lincoln was elected as president, and the south feared that he would abolish slavery. He was viewed as an opponent of the expansion of slavery, and the south really didn't want him to be the president. Even though he said he would not interfere with it where it existed.
John brown's raid
Date: October 16 1859
Location: From Maryland to Virginia
Summary: John brown led 21 men across the Potomac river. They wanted to capture the cache of weapons stored in the U.S Arsenal. John's goal was to destroy the slave system in the South. The weapons would allow him and his followers to establish a stronghold in the mountains in which he could attack nearby slaveholders.
Aftermath: The raid was overall a success. They slashed the telegraph wires to cut the town off from the outside world. But they were unsuccessful in isolating the town.

Background/Training: Before the Civil War, he fought in the mexican-american war and graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point.
Responsibilities: He trained volunteers and was The General of the Army.
After the Civil War: He eventually became the president of the United States.

- He destroyed the KKK
- He was the 18th President of the United States
- He narrowly missed Lincolns assassination
- He couldnt stand the sight of blood.
William Sherman
Background/Training: He served under U.S Grant and was first commissioned as a colonel of the 13th U.S Infantry regiment. Went to West Point.
Responsibilities:He was the general and served under U.S Grant.
After the Civil War:
- He was Born in Lancaster, OH
- He was hated as a military man but he was loved by his men that served under him.
- Said ''war is Hell''
- He turned down an offer to run for presidency as a republican He had a tank that was named after him
Jefferson Davis
Background/Training: Graduated west point and served as a secutary of war for the US
Responsibilities: He was president of the confederate states of america
After the Civil War: After losing the civil war, he became a congressman
- Married to the daughted of the future president Zachary Taylor
- Hired John Wilkes Botth to kill Abraham lincoln
- Senator from mississip before the civil war
- Served in the mexican-american war He was a classmate of robert e lees at westpoint
Robert E Lee
Background/Training: He was in the mexican/american war,he was the superintendent,U.S Military Academy Army of Northern Virginia
Responsibilities:General of the Confederate army
After the Civil War: The same day that Lee was inaugurated as president of Washington college in Lexingtion, Virginia, he signed is amnesty oath
- He was a top graduate of West Point
- His greatest victories were the seven days battles, the second battle of bull run, the battle of fredericksburg, and the battle of chancellorsville.
- He was buried in West Point
- His citizenship was not restored until 1975 after the war
- Lincoln wanted him on his side.
